Otly!Give. Because money can have a real impact.

Otly!Give is a network of charities who are all working on creating a better world. Because at Otly we believe that money can have a real impact on the world around us, we have launched this platform in order to let children learn about the impact their money can have. In this Q&A, you will find our most frequently asked questions and the ways to contact us if your question is not in this list. So, read the whole post or just the one you are interested in, it's up to you.

Why did you build Otly!Give?

The idea for Otly!Give came from our belief that money is more than just something you buy toys with. Our mission is to provide financial education to all children, and this also means we have to teach children that money can do good and can have a real impact on the world around us. Looking at Dutch initiatives like Serious Request, we saw the eagerness in children to do good with their own money and the enthusiasm to organise events to raise money for charity. The success of an event like Serious Request, we determined, is due to the fact that people get a lot of accessible information about the cause, and that it is made very clear what is being done with the donation and you are not tied to anything after you donated. These are exactly the two things we also want to do with Otly!Give. Show what the different causes stand for and what they do, as well as being able to give any amount without any strings attached.

Because if a child wants to do good for the world and help a charity, it should be easy, simple and understandable.

Otly!Give is a joint effort of Otly together with Whydonate.

How does it practically work?

Within the app, parents can go to the child homepage to check the Otly!Give platform for that child. As a parent you can learn about the work of the different charities, or go to the settings and disable the charities you don’t want your children to see.

Just make sure you have updated your app to the latest version and you can start exploring straight away.

Why did you choose Whydonate as a partner?

Whydonate and Otly are two startups that strive to create a social impact. Whydonate has an established network of causes with a great platform that enable us a seamless integration. Moreover, the Whydonate system will allow us to further extend the Otly!Give concept, e.g. let the kids create their own fundraising campaigns.

How did you select these charities and not different ones?

There are multiple methods we used to come to the current selection. First of all we required all charities to have an ANBI registration. This means that they are checked and approved by the Dutch government, making sure this is a legitimate and responsible charity. The second criterium was that the charity needed to have a Dutch branch and be active in the Netherlands. They needed to have name recognition and they needed to fit in the categories within the Otly!Give platform. Charities who focus on children, education and animals received a preferential treatment because they are easy to relate to. After this launch we will continuously update, revise and add to this list of charities to make sure that the platform stays relevant and up to date.

How does my money arrive at the charity?

Upon payment, the donation will be received at a dedicated Otly account. We then transfer the money to the Whydonate platform and there it is being routed to the cause that was picked.

Do you sell the donation data?

No, we do not; and we will never do that either. We will never sell your donation data (or any of your data for that matter) to anyone. Your data is yours and we are very aware of our responsibilities concerning your data. What we will be doing with your data, is track how many times people have given to each charity and how much the total and average amount was. These numbers will be used to improve our systems and for reports on the impact of Otly and Otyl!Give.

Can I control which charities my child can see in their app??

Yes you can. If you click on the Otly!Give button on the child page and then on the gear icon in the top right corne, you go to settings. By sliding the different charities on or off, you can decide which charities will show up in the app of your child and which ones do not.

Rest assured, we create all cause-files with children in mind. This means that we write texts in a way that children can understand and we select videos and images that are honest about the cause but still appropriate for children. Have you seen anything that you think is not appropriate, please let us know and send us an email.

Are these donations tax deductible?

It all depends how much you are giving. In order for a one time gift to be tax deductible there are a number of items there are a number of rules. First of all, we have made sure that all causes on the platform are ANBI registered, which means that all transactions are eligible for a tax deduction. Besides this, your donation needs to be over €60 and be more than 1% of your taxable income. Is that the case, make sure to ask us for a receipt.

Because we are a Dutch company and the majority of our users are Dutch, we are using the Dutch tax system as the benchmark. If you are from another country, you can usually find the information on tax deductibles online.[1]

Can I get a receipt for my donation?

Yes you can, but you do not get one automatically. When you have made your donation, you will automatically receive a confirmation email from us. If you want a receipt, ask us and we request your receipt from your chosen charity and they will provide you with one.

How can I contact you?

We hope we were able to answer all the questions through this post. If not, please let us know by sending us an Email or a direct message on Facebook or Twitter.
